Freaking Fantastic Franconia Hiking Trip for Women!May - October Timeline
Wednesday night – Welcome to the Franconia Region! Franconia Notch is known for it’s natural beauty, including glacial rock formations, lakes, mountains and gorges. This hiking trip for women over 40 will feature each of those and more!
After you settle into our lodging, we will hold a meet and greet from 3-4pm with all the awesome women taking this Force of Nature Adventures hiking trip. I will start the introductions-My name is Tracey and I love hiking, dogs, chips/salsa and sangria!
This trip starts with a bang as we enjoy some hearty snacks and embark on our quest to catch the sunset at the top of Franconia Notch’s Artists Bluff. Artist’s Bluff provides one of the most breathtaking views of the White Mountains. This gorgeous hike takes about an hour and has serious payoff for minimal effort!
We will savor the view and then take in a beautiful sunset over the valley.
Break out your headlamps for the hike back down! Back at our lodgings, we will enjoy dinner, chat around a welcoming fire and indulge in smores and wine, tea or hot cocoa.

Thursday – We start the day early with some delicious coffee and a hearty breakfast in preparation for one of the most epic hikes in all of the White Mountains. We will pack some sandwiches and homemade snacks and head for my absolute favorite hike in the Whites- Mount Lincoln and Layfette via the Falling Waters Trail. This dramatic ridge is second to none and the hike also includes several gorgeous waterfalls. This hike is guaranteed to instill a sense of awe to anyone fortunate enough to walk along it’s panoramic ridge. There are literally not enough superlatives for this one!
The first time I completed this ridge walk, I felt truly invincible and bad-ass, it’s like walking on the back of a dinosaur! This is a 9-mile, strenuous hike with 4100 feet of elevation gain and will take about 6-7 hours. You must be in great hiking condition for this adventure. Due to the dangers of a wide-open ridge, this hike will only be done if the weather cooperates. Otherwise, we will save it for Friday and switch up the itinerary.
After this exhilarating day of conquering two peaks, we will head back to our lodging to shower, change, catch our collective breath and head out for a local dinner. Enjoy dessert because Hell Ya- you have earned it!
Friday – Prepare to spend a leisurely morning enjoying the view, coffee and breakfast in our lodging. We will head out at 10am to visit two quintessential, must-see New Hampshire attractions – The Basin and the Flume Gorge.
The Basin is a large pothole in the Pemigewasset River. It started to form over 25,000 years ago as the ice Age came to an end. Henry David Thoreau remarked that “this pothole is perhaps the most remarkable curiosity of its kind in New England”. There are some short trails here where we can stretch our legs from yesterday’s accomplishment!
From here we will travel a short distance to the Flume Gorge. The Flume is a natural gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. The Flume was formed nearly 200 million years ago during the Jurassic Period. It can be truly magical to walk in the heart of the gorge. It’s a beautiful reminder of nature’s ability to create sculptures. We will enjoy a late lunch together before we say goodbye.
This trip is considered Hard. You should be someone who feels comfortable spending the majority of the day hiking. To maximize your enjoyment of the trip, I recommend starting an exercise routine prior to departure. Endurance is critical for this trip.
