Magical Monadnock-Hiking Trip for Women!

May - october

Thursday Night – Welcome to the Monadnock region, a place of outstanding natural beauty in Southern New Hampshire! This hiking trip for women over 40 will feature great hiking and local attractions of the Monadnock region.
After you settle into our lodging, we will hold a meet and greet from 3-4pm with all the awesome women taking this Force of Nature Adventures hiking trip. I will start the introductions: My name is Tracey and I love hiking, dogs, chips/salsa and sangria!

To start the trip with a bang, we will head out to North Pack Monadnock for a sunset hike. This 3-mile trail takes about 2 hours. Because we are badass, we will tack on the gorgeous Cliff Trail, which leads to even more epic views and adds just 1 mile roundtrip to our hike. If the weather gods are in our favor, we will be rewarded with an inspiring sunset! Don’t forget to pack your head-lamp for the way down!

Back at our lodgings, we will enjoy dinner, chat around a welcoming fire and indulge in smores and wine, tea or hot cocoa.

Friday morning/afternoon-After a hearty breakfast to sustain us, we will head for Mt. Monadnock State Park.

Mt. Monadnock or Grand Monadnock as it is sometimes called, is a 3,165ft peak that dominates the local landscape. Its name is derived from a term used to describe a bare or smooth mountain in the language of the Abenaki Indigenous people, whose history in this area dates back 11,000 years. True to its name, the top of Monadnock is wide open, providing expansive and breathtaking views. On a clear day, you can even see the Boston skyline 62 miles away! Many people use this mountain to train for hiking the 4000’ers in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. People from all over the world are drawn to hike this mountain; over the centuries it has served as inspiration for many great artists and writers, including Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau!

Monadnock offers 22 trails, and we will summit via the 2-mile Marlboro Trail on its west side. This is one of my favorite routes due to its great views, combination of forest cover and rock scrambles with the added bonus of being less crowded! This trail has 1,804 feet of elevation gain! We will take our time and rest at the summit to fully savor the 360-degree views while enjoying lunch. After our hike, we’ll head to nearby Kimball’s Farm to indulge in a delicious ice cream cone or other sweet treat. Hell yeah! We will have definitely earned it! (I recommend a small cone. Kimball’s large cones can feed a small family.)

Friday night – After a couple hours of free time, we will all dine together at a local inn. It will be early to bed since tomorrow will be our sunrise hike.

Saturday morning – An early wake up call will rouse us for a quick hike up Pack Monadnock via the Marion Davis Trail. The sweeping northerly views here are treasured by birders for the fall hawk migration. Bring your headlamp and a snack so we can safely make the summit in time for the sun’s arrival!

Our last meal together will be lunch, followed by a visit to a glass blowing studio and/or a local winery.

This trip is considered Intermediate. You should be someone who feels comfortable spending the majority of the day hiking. To maximize your enjoyment of the trip, I recommend starting an exercise routine prior to departure. Endurance is critical for this trip.
